Your Resolve Counselling Contract
(face-to-face and telephone counselling)

Your counsellor, in undertaking to talk with you is committing themselves to talking at the time(s) you have agreed, to provide a safe setting in which you can explore your issues and difficulties and, if appropriate, move towards change. They will endeavour to facilitate you in this process.
As their client, in undertaking to be counselled, you are committing yourself to talking with them regularly at the agreed times and endeavouring to make constructive use of the time you have together.

Confidentiality
The counselling service is confidential but with the following exceptions:-
1. The counsellor receives regular supervision of their work and your sessions may be discussed, in confidence, with their supervisor. Every effort will be made to maintain your anonymity.
2. If you give the counsellor information which leads them to believe that someone is in danger or serious harm then, after giving the matter careful consideration, the counsellor may take steps to minimise this danger. Any action would normally be discussed with you first.
3. Very occasionally, situations arise in which it may be necessary to go beyond the bounds of a normal confidentiality agreement (as in the case of being legally required to give information about acts of terrorism). In the event of such a situation, the counsellor will always discuss any action they may take with you and then with their supervisor.

Cancellations
If you wish to cancel or change the time of a session, please let your counsellor know well in advance a minimum of 24 hours before the session is due to start. Another appointment will be offered unless you request an end to the counselling. The counsellor would appreciate the opportunity to have a final session with you if this is the case.

Late or Missed Sessions
If you do not telephone on time and have not cancelled by the beginning of the session, the counsellor will assume you are not telephoning. If you miss the session without notification, we will offer you another appointment, but it may not be as soon as you would wish. You will be required to pay 50% for a session missed without prior notification.

Duration and Termination
Once the counsellor agrees to talk with you, the counsellor will work for as long as you both agree that it is proving useful. Normally, you would agree a set number of sessions and then review the process and content of counselling. You may of course finish counselling at any time, but we do ask that you give a minimum of one sessions notice of your decision to stop. It is generally better to plan the ending in advance. Usually, the longer you work with your counsellor, the longer the ending process, but having two sessions to end allows for a degree of closure.

Records
Any written records are kept under lock and key. Notes are usually destroyed two years after your last session.

Policy Documents
This cover areas of complaints procedures, client information and our code of ethics. These will be made available to clients on request.
